Company History
It all started in 1954, when Walt Hanson created W.E. Hanson & Associates, a civil engineering firm focusing on bridge design, in Springfield, Ill. Since then, our hands-on approach and commitment to our clients’ success have allowed us to expand.
During the first few decades, we concentrated our growth in the Midwest and quickly broadened our reach. Through acquisitions, mergers and company growth, Hanson has steadily expanded its services. And as our regional presence has grown, so have our capabilities. Then in 1972, we proudly became an employee-owned company.
From Alaska to Florida, Hanson serves clients throughout the U.S. at a local level. And we continue to support our clients for their overseas projects, working in many countries around the world.
For decades, Hanson has appeared as a Top 500 design firm in Engineering News-Record’s listing of premier U.S. design firms. We also have received numerous workplace and project-related awards, honoring our company, employees and clients.
